The El Mirador archaeological site

The El Mirador archaeological site is located in northern Petén, within Mirador–Río Azul National Park, and is recognized as one of the most monumental Maya settlements of the Preclassic period. Reaching the site—either by air or via multi-day treks through dense jungle—is part of the experience of visiting this remote destination. Among its most remarkable structures is La Danta Pyramid, one of the largest in Mesoamerica, surrounded by temples, plazas, and ancient causeways that reflect the scale and complexity of this ancient Maya city. 💡 Curiosities La Danta Pyramid rises approximately 72 meters high and is part of one of the most massive architectural complexes in the Maya world. El Mirador flourished several centuries before the rise of cities such as Tikal, making it a key site for understanding the origins of Maya civilization.
