Champerico

The port town of Champerico, located along the Pacific coast of the department of Retalhuleu, stands out for its historical significance and its role in the country’s maritime development. Its old iron pier, inaugurated in the 19th century, remains as a testament to the coffee boom and port activity that once shaped the region. Today, Champerico blends this historical legacy with wide beaches, a relaxed atmosphere, and a culinary scene centered around fresh seafood, making it an appealing spot for rest and seaside escape along the Pacific. 💡 Curiosities Champerico’s pier was inaugurated in 1872 and for decades served as one of the main export points for coffee and bananas to international markets. It is one of the few historic piers in Guatemala that still preserves much of its original structure.
